Saint Efisio and the thousand aspects of the festivity: the meaning of food.

Food is not just nourishment. It is also based on the choice of food and its preparation that every culture represents itself and expresses its vision of the world.

The Museo Archeologico Nazionale of Cagliari is presenting the conference titled Saint Efisio and the thousand aspects of the festivity: the meaning of food, on Thursday 28 June, 2018, at 17.30. This event is related to the exhibition Efisio. Martyrized by the Romans, sanctified by the Christians, cherished by the contemporaries.

Adriana Gallistru, director of the Archivio di Stato of Cagliari, and cultural anthropologist Alessandra Guigoni will examine the theme of food linked to the celebrations of the festivities of Saint Efisio through historical/documentary, and anthropological approaches. They will present documents and written testimonies of the events surrounding the daily life of the procession thoughout the centuries. The speakers will explain the symbolic meaning of the food associated to the festivity, and will accompany us through an interesting journey of food awareness as one of the ways every society represents itself during different historical and cultural periods.
