The Sardinian-Phoenician fortress of the Nuraghe Sirai (Carbonia).

The book written by Carla Perra titled The Sardinian-Phoenician fortress of the Nuraghe Sirai (Carbonia). The Iron II of Sardinia, will be presented in the didactic room of the Museo Archeologico Nazionale of Cagliari, in collaboration with the Associazione Culturale Onlus Itzokor,  on Thursday, 23 January 2020, at 17.30.

Throughout the evening, the findings from the excavations done in the Sardinian-Phoenician fortress will be disclosed, with the assistance of the archaeologist Manuela Puddu, official responsible for the Museo Archeologico Nazionale of Cagliari.  The fortress was constructed at the end of the seventeenth century BC, on a pre-existing village from the Bronze Age at the foot of the Nuraghe.

The author will be present.

The book, published by CNR – Institute of studies about the Ancient Mediterranean, represents the first point of reference for the interpretation of the last phase of the Nuraghic civilization, the Iron II, from 730 to 550 BC, and of its interaction with the Phoenician community in the Sulcis. Carla Perra is the scientific director of the archaeological excavation site of the Nuraghe Sirai complex and of the historical/archaeological sector of the Sistema Museale of Carbonia (Museums of Carbonia – SIMUC), which include the Museo Archeologico Villa Sulcis, the Parco Archeologico of Monte Sirai, the Nuraghe Sirai, and the Parco Urbano di Cannas of Sotto. With this book, the author provides the stratigraphical description and the analyses of all the buildings, the excavated town blocks, an additional complete edition of the ceramic production, and the analyses of the structures, the architecture, and the territorial system of the settlement.

The event will be followed by an aperitif organized by the Associazione Culturale onlus Itzokor.
