San Lorenzo, iconography between Italy and Sardinia.

On Saturday, 10 August ,2019, the day of the liturgical celebrations dedicated to San Lorenzo, the Pinacoteca nazionale of Cagliari and the Spazio San Pancrazio visitors will have free admittance, and for this occasion, it will be possible to enjoy guided tours among the painting collection of the Pinacoteca from 10.00 to 12.00, and at 16.00, and of the Spazio San Pancrazio from 10.00 to 12.00.

At 18.00, Giacomo Orrù will present the lecture titled San Lorenzo, iconography between Italy and Sardinia in the conference room of the Pinacoteca nazionale of Cagliari.

Martirio di San Lorenzo – 1638 ca. – Orazio De Ferrari

Through the statements of  the writings of Sant’Ambrogio, the scholar will retrace the phases of the earthly life of San Lorenzo, who was martyred at the age of 33 on 10 August ,258 AD, under the rule of Emperor Valeriano.

During the conference, the most famous iconographic representations, and the artists that dedicated their paintings to the Saint will be analyzed.  Spinello Aretino, Beato Angelico, Benozzo Gozzoli, Agnolo Bronzino, Tiziano, Pietro da Cortona are only a few of the great artists that made his life known, and they will accompany us towards the discovery of a treasure in the Pinacoteca Nazionale of Cagliari: the Martyrdom of San Lorenzo by Orazio De Ferrari.
