I contemplate the infinity here. Poetic words and feelings amid the rooms of Caprera.

Garibaldi: from a tent to the “white house” in the enchanted Island of Caprera. The doors of his first house will open. Here lived a great man of action, who showed a strong sensibility towards the scenery, the arts, and the poetry. For the first time in the history of the Compendio, the Polo Museale of Sardinia will open Giuseppe Garibaldi’s first house to the public. To learn more about the exclusive story of the place where the General first lived, the Compendio Garibaldino of Caprera presents the exhibit titled I contemplate the infinity here. Poetic words and feelings amid the rooms of Caprera, from Wednesday 27 December 2017 to 25 February 2018. Visitors will be able to walk inside the Hero’s first and humble home, and learn all its secrets. In every corner of these small rooms the visitor will relive Garibaldi’s feelings and states of mind, the same he felt for those places. Now, those unadorned walls have become the pages of the verses from his autobiographical poem that Garibaldi dedicated to the wild solitary Caprera. On December 29, 1855 Giuseppe Garibaldi signed the bill of sale to purchase part of Caprera, becoming the owner of about half of the island. This date marked the beginning of a profound relationship with Sardinia that lasted to his death. On the first piece of land that he bought from his friend Pietro Susini, there was a small building, half house and half sheepfold. The living space was insufficient, so he decided to expand the structure with some lumber he brought from Nice, and he built the so-called wooden house. It was from those humble spaces that Garibaldi watched the slow construction of his future “white house”, on the northern side of the courtyard.

This occurrence is part of scheduled events for Musei di Storie with the theme Gold and Silver.
