Scents and flavors in the pantry. Inside the kitchen of the White House of Caprera.

A view into the daily life in Giuseppe Garibaldi’s house through scents, aromas, and seasonable products of the past. Would you like to discover the most modest and arcane eating habits of the Hero of Two Worlds?

The Compendio Garibaldino of Caprera invites tourists and visitors to participate in the initiative dedicated to Garibaldi’s kitchen titled Scents and flavors in the pantry. Inside the kitchen of the White House of Caprera. The event will take place during the extended opening hours on Friday 5 October, 2018, from 20.00 to 23.00.

To celebrate the Year of Italian food promoted by MIBAC in 2018, and in collaboration with the Ministry of Agricultural Policies, the museum is recreating the pantry utilized by the General. Some food products from the farming tradition of Caprera such as wheat, fruits, pickled olives, oil, wine, honey, various legumes, and aromatic plants will be on display. These products were the base ingredients for the dishes consumed by Garibaldi’s family and the numerous guests.

The exhibition will be open until 31 October, 2018, from Monday through Saturday, and Sunday 7 October (first Sunday of the month with free admission), from 9.00 to 20.00.
