Saint Efisio: the legend and the images between Sardinia and Pisa.

The right wing of the Cathedral’s transept and the Archiepiscopal chapel in Pisa are dedicated to him.

The Museo Archeologico nazionale of Cagliari,  as part of the initiatives associated with the exhibition Efisio. Martyrized by the Romans, sanctified by the Christians, cherished by the contemporaries, is presenting a conference by Alberto Virdis, historian of Medieval art titled Saint Efisio: the legend and the images between Sardinia and Pisa. This initiative will highlight and place the historical events during the Sardinian Medieval time with the pictorial art dedicated to Saint Efisio in the Tuscan city. The event will take place on 20 September 2018, at 17.30.

During the meeting, the scholar, specialized in art interaction and cultural exchanges in the Mediterranean between Medieval time and before Modern Age, will talk about the most ancient iconographic tradition of the Sirian martyr, whose remains were taken to Pisa between 1088 and 1126, emphasizing the pictorial production. The presence of his remains gave life to the fourteenth pictorial cycle by Spinello Aretino in the monumental graveyard, the most ancient testimony known about Efisio.

Roberto Concas, director of the Museum, will be the moderator for the event.
