Garibaldi of paper.

The inauguration of a  photographic exhibition of graphic posters dedicated to Garibaldi’s epoch will take place on 4 July 2019 inside the wind mill of the Compendio Garibaldino of Caprera.

The display, curated by Annita Garibaldi Jallet contains about twenty brightly colored posters, property of the  Associazione nazionale veterani e reduci garibaldini  (ANVRG),  that date from 1982  (the centenary of the death of the Hero of the Two Worlds) to 2011 (the 150th anniversary of the Unification of Italy). Through the comparison of four historical posters from the first half of 1900,  it will be possible to reflect on the evolution of a myth that was the foundation of the Risorgimento, and still alive in the modern Italian nation. The legendary figure of Giuseppe Garibaldi with his expressive face, his distinctive clothing, and the statuary poses on horseback during an action, or in perfect stillness while meditating, are the elements that identify the Hero in a unequivocal way, and the inspiration of great artistic illustrations of his image, even in the graphic sector, definitely characterizing him as one of the most popular icons of all time.

The exhibition will be open to the public until 31 July 2019.
