The volume portrays Garibaldi as farmer and agronomist. Readers are no longer faced with the Hero of the Two Worlds, but with a man devoted to his farm, to the pursuit of knowledge and who cherished the place where he decided to spend the last years of his life. Garibaldi was profoundly tied to the Isle of Caprera and his farming activities marked in a significant way the techniques and researches which he realised, as well as the surrounding landscape.
