Jewels and ornaments from prehistoric times to today. Exhibition at the Museo Archeologico ed Etnografico “G.A. Sanna” of Sassari, on Friday, 26 January, 2018.
Dazzling ornaments enrich the halls of the Museo Sanna with an exhibition itinerary of great significance and appeal. A selection of jewels and ornaments are on display divided in two sections: one is ethnographic and the other is archaeological. The first section includes some examples of traditional Sardinian jewelry, crafted with precious metals employing ancient processing techniques. These jewels include items from the collections of Gavino Clemente and Zely Bertolio such as, brooches, rings, necklaces, amulets, and ornaments for the garments. The archaeological section leads us through time with items created between the nuraghic and the medieval age, from the first jewels made with stone, shell, and bone, to the jewelry and ornaments crafted in bronze, gold, and silver. Several amber and glass paste ornaments reveal the story of ancient exchanges and business contacts.
Giorgio Murru, Director of the Menhir Museum, Museo della Statuaria Preistorica in Sardegna of Laconi is inaugurating the event. Goldsmith Pier Andrea Carta and Nicola Castangia, photographer of ArcheoFoto, are presenting the lecture titled The jewelry of Janas: from the myth of the Janas to the most common types of folk jewelry.
