head office

The Direzione regionale Musei Sardegna is located on the second floor of the state property known as Caserma Monte Grappa, that was the headquarters of the military district since 1999. The structure was declared a place of cultural interest on 13 May 2000.

The building borders the church of Sant’Agostino Nuovo, and was built in the historic district of the Marina in 1823. The building overlooks Largo Carlo Felice, a central street full of shops, and a crossroad of people and cultures from all over the world, and is located just a few steps from the port of Cagliari. The structure is surrounded by a wall with high squared stone wainscot, and an upper part made of small bricks interspersed with Ashlar columns. Beyond the round arched entrance with iron gate there is an irregular courtyard. The structure was built on two floors over the ground level, and it is marked by a string course frame with arched or segmental arch openings. Some of this openings are surmounted by shaped framework supported by shelves, and decorated with bas-reliefs. The view is completed at the top by a jutting molded frame.

The offices of the Segretariato Regionale of Sardinia is also located inside the building.
