Historical gardens of Sardinia. Strolling in beauty.

This will be a wonderful opportunity to experience Caprera and the beautiful natural scenery that is the Compendio Garibaldino, one of the seven locations of the project Historical gardens of Sardinia.

During the 9th and 10th of June, 2018 it will be possible to walk through paths of exceptional beauty, and to participate to scheduled events:

  • Caprera: projections from the past. The history of a landscape that is protected and transformed

The images and the narrating voice focus on the most significant events that have affected the island that Garibaldi chose for his home, against the unceasing interaction between nature and man. Through the comparison with the most recent images one notices how the Hero of Two Worlds, wisely transformed the land into a modern farm for the sustainment of his family. A timeless past that relives through the illustrations of the English artist Frank Vizetelly from the prestigious The Illustrated London News (1861).

The tours will start with the pine tree of more than a century old that grows in the middle of the courtyard of the Compendio Garibaldino, known as Clelia’s Pine. • Stories of trees. Trees of stories.

Narration and music performance

In the narrative ancient and modern stories intertwine around the columns that support the sky. Passing from biblical tales to classic mythology, from modern fables to real stories similar to fairy tales, like the story of the redwood-girl. Famous trees are told, just like the ones planted by Giuseppe Garibaldi. Record trees and other ones that still live in the community’s memories, uprooted to be replaced by asphalt.

Creative workshop

Young guests will be accompanied through the entire process of handcrafting sheets of paper starting from the production of fiber, using recycled paper. They will work on looms and will personalize their paper using leaves and natural elements picked up during a short stroll in the gardens of the Compendio Garibaldino.

Every child can make various paper sheets either white, colored, with different color sides, with decorative elements of natural origin such as leaves and flower petals picked up from the ground after falling from the plant. Sheets will then be prepared for the drying process that will last approximately two days. The finished products will be shipped or directly delivered to the participants.
