2018 National Landscape Day in Caprera

Within the beautiful setting of Caprera, the two museums dedicated to Garibaldi are celebrating the 2018 National Landscape Day with two important initiatives.

The Compendio Garibaldino is presenting Caprera: projections from the past. The history of a landscape that is protected and transformed through a temporary exhibition followed by a video projection of vintage images. These pictures focus on the most significant events that have affected the island that Garibaldi chose for his home, against the unceasing interaction between nature and man. The past will come back to life through the illustrations of the English artist Frank Vizetelly. His artwork, recently donated to the Compendio Garibaldino,  was published on The Illustrated London News (1861), and for the first time ever, will be displayed for public view inside Garibaldi’s first small house.

The Memoriale Giuseppe Garibaldi of Caprera is organizing a guided tour and an educational workshop titled Landscape to the North-West. Mom, I lost the Tramontana! The intriguing position of Fort Arbuticci, which overlooks the archipelago of La Maddalena and the island of Corsica, is a privileged vantage point that offers visitors the opportunity to explore and recognize the geographical landmarks. For the occasion, the educational workshop participants will be part of a guided tour  to discover Fort Arbuticci, followed by the creation of a compass that will aid them in handcrafting their own compass rose.
